This page is to answer questions and provide additional information for the conference participants
Question 1. Will you be posting
a schedule of the speakers and their topics on the website?
Yes we will be posting the provisional conference schedule on the website before March 21. Conference registration begin Friday at 3:00. The last session will get over at 4:45 on Saturday.
Question 2. What are my best traveling options to get to Carbondale?
The closest international airport is Lambert International Airport in St. Louis, Missouri. For those who plan to fly into St. Louis and drive to Carbondale, we have provided maps with driving directions either directly to Southern Illinois University Carbondale or to the Ramada Limited. Unfortunately there are no buses or trains that run directly from St. Louis to Carbondale. The driving time is about an hour and a half.
It is possible to get a connecting flight from St. Louis to Williamson County Regional Airport in Marion, Illinois. If you decide to fly into Marion, the commute to Carbondale is about ten minutes. We have also provided maps for this route on the HGSA Conference homepage.
A third option which may be more economical for some would be to fly into Chicago and take the train down to Carbondale. According to Amtrak.com, train prices start at 64 dollars for a round trip. This option would alleviate the need to rent a car as the train station is within walking distance of the university.
Question 3. Is HGSA able to provide any sort of travel assistance?
Unfortunately, we do not have the budget to provide travel assistance to participants. Here is for hoping that perhaps in future conferences we will!
Question 4. Will transportation between the school and the hotel be provided?
Yes, we will provide transportation from the Ramada to the university. If you choose to stay at another hotel, and let us know, we will do our best to provide transportation from there as well if you so desire.
Question 5. Is registration required?
Yes. Registration will start an hour before the first session and run through the duration of the conference for those that cannot make it to the entire conference. We have no registration fees.
Question 6. What will be the layout of the panel sessions?
Each session will have a moderator with the audience as commentator and will be an hour and a half. As of right now, each panel has three presenters and so presenters should prepare presentations of twenty minutes or less. This will give each panel half an hour to field questions.
Question 7. Is there any possibility of setting up a carpool from St. Louis to Carbondale?
Those that would be interested in perhaps carpooling can send their arrival information (i.e. date and time, and airline information if you so desire) to Donovan Weight at dweight@siu.edu and he will give it out to others that are interested in carpooling.
